We
may spend much of our workday being effective communicators, but it seems like
every time we turn around a parenting topic comes up that we may struggle to
address in the right way with our kids.
Ladies,
I know we all remember the vivid details of when we got our first period.
And let me guess, even reading that sentence made you squirm a little, didn’t
it?
It’s
a rite of passage for every young girl into womanhood, and can be confusing,
gross and downright scary all at the same time. And we, as moms,
are the perfect people to help them through right? After all, not only
are we used to being the pillar of emotional support, but in this case we’ve
gone through the exact same thing ourselves.
Yet
it can still be a conversation many moms struggle with (not to mention the very
hands-on or single dad). So I was excited to hear about the Dot Girl
product line, specifically designed to help parents guide their girls through
this important transition.
The
site was created by two “mompreneurs” -- sisters who were both mothers to girls
-- to offer a variety of products and advice around the subject of
puberty. They offer several products, but the Dot Girl’s First Period Kit
seems to be the main feature. It’s a discreet package that carries a 12
page booklet with frequently asked questions, hygiene supplies and
coupons.
It
serves as a launching pad to help daughters understand the process and necessities,
as well as opens up the lines of communication to mom so that everyone feels
more comfortable.
