| Inspired by Three Cups of Tea and the work that Greg Mortenson is doing to promote peace by empowering girls through education Dot Girl First Period Products will donate $1 from the sale of every The Dot Girl’s First Period Kit™ to the Central Asia Institute (CAI).
The Central Asia Institute is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded in 1996, with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Greg Mortenson is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Central Asia Institute. Mortenson’s initial development efforts were first inspired by the Balti people he met after a 1993 climb of K2 (world’s second highest mountain). Mortenson learned to appreciate the vitality and resourcefulness of the Balti mountain people, and how remarkably skilled the people are to survive and live in the harshest of conditions. The philosophy to empower the local people through their own initiative is at the heart of all CAI programs.
As of 2008, Central Asia Institute has successfully established 64 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which provide (or have provided) education to over 25,000 students, with an emphasis on girls’ education.
